In the ever-evolving world of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has made its way into Volkswagen’s maiden electric car, the VW ID.4. The German automaker confirmed that the 2025 lineup of ID.4 EV models will feature the ChatGPT-based voice assistant that was introduced in the 2024 models. This voice assistant is designed to make interacting with the car’s infotainment system easier and more intuitive for users. Additionally, Volkswagen assures customers that their data will not be at risk from in-car use, addressing concerns about data privacy.
### Unchanged Lineup with Enhanced Features
The 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 lineup remains largely unchanged from the previous model year, with most models offering a more powerful rear motor unit that delivers 282 horsepower in single-motor rear-wheel-drive form or 335 horsepower in dual-motor all-wheel-drive form. The electric vehicles come equipped with a larger 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which has helped boost the EPA range ratings to 263 miles for AWD versions and up to 291 miles for the single-motor version. These improvements aim to enhance the overall driving experience for ID.4 owners.
### Voice Assistant Integration
One of the key updates for the 2025 models is the integration of the ChatGPT-based voice assistant. This technology allows users to interact with the vehicle’s infotainment system using voice commands, making it easier to access information and control various functions while driving. Volkswagen has emphasized that this AI-powered assistant does not access vehicle data, ensuring the highest level of data protection for users.
### Continued Development of AI Systems
Despite the current implementation of ChatGPT, Volkswagen is not stopping there. The automaker is working on developing a large-language-model-based system for a next-generation in-car assistant, which will once again incorporate AI technology. This ongoing development highlights Volkswagen’s commitment to innovation and improving the user experience in their vehicles.
### Pricing and Availability
While Volkswagen has not provided a specific release date for the 2025 ID.4 models, the electric vehicles are expected to be offered in a total of seven trims. The pricing for the 2024 ID.4 models was increased compared to the previous year, starting at $41,160 with the smaller battery pack and $46,300 with the larger pack. However, all versions are eligible for the full $7,500 EV tax credit, making them more affordable for consumers. The 2025 models are expected to continue to qualify for these incentives.
### Future Prospects for AI in Volkswagen Vehicles
As AI technology continues to advance, Volkswagen is poised to leverage these advancements to further enhance the capabilities of its in-car assistant systems. By incorporating AI into their vehicles, Volkswagen aims to provide a more personalized and intuitive driving experience for customers. With the integration of cutting-edge technology like ChatGPT, Volkswagen is paving the way for the future of automotive innovation.
