The Tesla Model 3 Performance debuts with adaptive suspension and track mode

Tesla has recently unveiled the new Model 3 Performance as part of the refreshed Model 3 lineup, codenamed “Highland”. This new version of the Model 3 is now available to order in the U.S. and comes with several upgrades and improvements compared to its predecessor.

The new Model 3 Performance features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that is rated at 510 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. Tesla claims a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, a top speed of 163 mph, and a range of 296 miles. The fourth-generation drive units offer more consistent performance, with a 22% increase in continuous power output, a 32% increase in peak power output, and a 16% increase in peak torque.

### Chassis and Styling Upgrades
The Model 3 Performance comes equipped with chassis upgrades, including adaptive dampers and an improved Track Mode that enhances the integration of motor, suspension, and powertrain cooling controls with the vehicle dynamics controller. The Performance model also features 20-inch forged and staggered wheels with Pirelli P Zero 4 tires. The revised styling of the Highland update offers aerodynamic benefits, including a 5% reduction in drag, a 36% reduction in lift, and a 55% improvement in front/rear lift balance compared to the previous Model 3 Performance.

### Interior Changes
In terms of interior changes, the new Model 3 Performance includes a set of front sport seats. The cabin of the Model 3 underwent a significant overhaul with the Highland refresh, adding features such as cooled front seats, dual wireless device charging, and an 8.0-inch screen for rear-seat passengers in addition to the main 15.4-inch touchscreen.

### Pricing and Competition
The starting price for the Tesla Model 3 Performance is $52,990 before destination charges, making it the top-tier option in the Model 3 lineup. This places it above the Long Range All-Wheel Drive and Rear-Wheel Drive models. However, the Performance version may be eligible for the federal EV tax credit, potentially making it a better deal than the Long Range model. It is important to note that Tesla’s pricing is subject to change, and recent price cuts have made the Model Y more affordable than the Model 3.

### Conclusion
As new competitors like the BMW i4 and Polestar 2 enter the electric vehicle market, updates to the Model 3 Performance were necessary to keep up with the evolving competition. The new Model 3 Performance offers improved performance, styling, and interior features, making it a compelling option for those in the market for a high-performance electric sedan.
