Tesla Issues Recall for Hood Closure Problem Across Model Lines
Tesla has recently issued a recall for a problem with the hood closure mechanism in all its model lines. The issue could potentially lead to the vehicle’s hood opening while in motion, posing a safety hazard to drivers and passengers.
On Tuesday, Tesla and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall affecting 1,849,638 vehicles, which include the popular Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. The problem originates from the vehicle’s hood latch assembly and related software, where the assembly may fail to detect an unlatched hood after it has been opened. This could result in the hood inadvertently opening while driving, potentially causing accidents or injuries.
Investigation and Software Update
Tesla initiated an investigation into customer complaints of unintended hood opening events on Model 3s and Model Ys in China on March 25. Subsequently, the company released an over-the-air (OTA) software update on June 18 to address the issue. The update is designed to detect if the hood is unlatched, with specific firmware releases such as 2024.20.3 containing the fix.
Models Affected and Software Fix
Affected models include all model-year 2021-2024 Model S sedans, 2021-2024 Model X crossovers, 2020-2024 Model Y crossovers, and 2021-2024 Model 3s manufactured between September 21, 2020, and June 2, 2024, in China. Vehicles produced after July 15 were equipped with firmware 2024.20.100, which included the necessary software fix to prevent the hood closure issue.
Recall Details and Contact Information
The recall pertaining to the hood closure problem is filed under NHTSA campaign 24V-554. For further information or assistance, individuals can contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236. It is crucial for affected Tesla owners to take action promptly to ensure the safety and functionality of their vehicles.
In conclusion, Tesla’s recall for the hood closure problem underscores the importance of proactive vehicle maintenance and safety checks. By addressing issues promptly and implementing software updates, automakers like Tesla aim to enhance the overall safety and performance of their vehicles on the road. Remember to stay informed about recalls and follow up with the necessary measures to ensure a safe driving experience.
