Recall issued for 2019 Jaguar I-Pace due to potential overheating of high-voltage battery

In 2024, Jaguar Land Rover has issued a recall for early Jaguar I-Pace electric SUVs due to a potential issue with the battery packs overheating. This recall affects 2,760 vehicles from the 2019 model year, all of which had previously received a software update to address battery pack issues. Despite the software update, reports of overheating incidents continued to surface, prompting Jaguar to take further action.

In response to the ongoing investigation, Jaguar has announced that dealers will be installing updated battery module control software that limits the capacity of the battery pack to 80%. This update will be provided free of charge to affected owners. Jaguar plans to send out notification letters to owners on October 18, 2024, with more information available through their customer service hotline.

This latest recall comes on the heels of previous recalls for the I-Pace, including a wider recall last year for fire risk and a smaller recall earlier this year for short circuits in the battery cells. Despite these challenges, Jaguar has continued to provide updates and improvements to the I-Pace, including faster charging capabilities and an improved interface.

While there have been rumors that Jaguar may discontinue the I-Pace in favor of newer electric models, the brand has confirmed that it will be dropping the I-Pace alongside most other models in preparation for a potential refresh of its electric vehicle lineup. As the investigation into the battery pack issues continues, Jaguar remains committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of its electric vehicles.
