New Porsche App Provides Access to 75% of Compatible US Chargers for EV Drivers

Introduction:
Porsche has announced a new partnership in the U.S. with ChargePoint, a popular charging network, to integrate the network’s chargers into its My Porsche app beginning in the fourth quarter of this year. This collaboration is set to offer Porsche drivers a more seamless and convenient charging experience, with access to over 86,000 chargers across the country. The agreement also aims to support the upcoming launch of Porsche’s new electric vehicles, including the Taycan and the Macan Electric. With a focus on enhancing the ownership experience for electric vehicle drivers, this partnership marks an important step towards expanding the charging infrastructure and supporting the transition to electric mobility.

The Growing Partnership with ChargePoint:
Porsche’s agreement with ChargePoint will provide Porsche drivers with access to a wide range of charging options, including CCS DC fast-chargers and J1772 AC chargers. By integrating ChargePoint chargers into the My Porsche app, drivers will be able to locate and use these chargers with ease, without the need for individual payment details. This seamless payment process is part of a larger trend in the industry to simplify charging experiences for electric vehicle owners.

Expanding the Charging Network:
According to the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, ChargePoint currently offers over 62,000 chargers at more than 34,000 locations across the country. This network includes both DC fast-charging stations for long-distance travel and destination chargers for everyday use. Porsche drivers will benefit from this extensive network, which will make it easier for them to find and use charging stations wherever they go.

Support for New Electric Vehicles:
The collaboration with ChargePoint comes at a pivotal time for Porsche, with the upcoming launch of the Taycan and the Macan Electric. The 2025 Porsche Taycan offers improved range and faster charging times, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes using a 350-kw CCS connector. The Macan electric SUV also leverages Porsche’s 800-volt charging technology, providing drivers with a convenient and efficient charging experience. These new electric vehicles are set to revolutionize Porsche’s lineup and contribute to the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

Implementation of NACS Standard:
As part of the Volkswagen Group, Porsche announced plans to adopt the Tesla-based NACS standard in its future products for North America starting in 2025. This move reflects Porsche’s commitment to interoperability and the seamless integration of charging infrastructure across different brands. Additionally, Porsche is exploring adapter solutions to allow existing vehicles to access the Tesla Supercharger network, further expanding charging options for Porsche drivers.

Looking Ahead:
Porsche’s partnership with ChargePoint represents a significant step towards enhancing the electric vehicle ownership experience and supporting the transition to electric mobility. With access to an extensive network of chargers and seamless payment integration, Porsche drivers will enjoy a more convenient and efficient charging experience. As Porsche continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup and invest in charging infrastructure, the brand is poised to play a leading role in shaping the future of electric mobility.
