Lucid CEO discourages automaker from considering an electric truck

Lucid Motors CEO, Peter Rawlinson, recently announced that the company has no plans to produce an electric pickup truck due to current technological limitations. Rawlinson emphasized the challenges of efficiency, battery size, and establishing a viable business case for such a vehicle. He estimated that a 300-mile range pickup truck would require at least a 150-kwh battery, significantly larger than the 84-kwh battery used in the Lucid Air Sedan. Rawlinson emphasized the importance of maximizing efficiency to reduce costs and make a viable business case for the vehicle. Lucid Motors currently holds the title for the most efficient vehicle in the U.S. market with the Lucid Air achieving 5.0 miles per kwh and 146 MPGe in EPA testing.

Future Electric SUV Offering
In addition to their decision to forgo an electric pickup truck, Lucid Motors also announced plans to launch a midsize electric SUV as a Tesla Model Y competitor in late 2026. The company aims to price the SUV at under $50,000 while offering similar range capabilities as its competitors with a smaller battery pack.
