The 2025 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid: Pricing and Features
The 2025 Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid has undergone a redesign to align with the standard Sorento and Sorento Hybrid models. However, with this update comes a significant increase in the cost of the vehicle. The base EX grade of the 2025 Sorento PHEV is priced at $49,365, with an additional $1,375 for destination charges. For those looking for a more luxurious option, the SX Prestige model is available starting at $54,465. In comparison, the 2024 model, which was only offered in the SX Prestige trim, had a starting price of $51,655. It’s worth noting that neither version of the Sorento PHEV is eligible for a federal EV tax credit.
Price Hike and Loss of Tax Credit Impact on Buyers
Just three years ago, the Sorento PHEV was available for $39,578 after factoring in a $6,587 tax credit for eligible buyers. However, with the price hike for the 2025 model and the removal of the tax credit, the effective cost has increased by $10,000. This makes the 2025 Sorento PHEV a significantly more expensive option for buyers compared to previous years.
2025 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid Features
The 2025 Sorento PHEV shares the same facelift as the Sorento Hybrid, with a more prominent grille and updated styling. Inside, the SX Prestige grade offers a curved panoramic display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and touchscreen, while the base EX grade features a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a standalone instrument cluster. Both configurations come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the SX Prestige model also includes digital key functionality. Additionally, adaptive cruise control and Kia’s Highway Driving Assist 2 system are now available as well.
Powertrain and Performance
The powertrain of the 2025 Sorento PHEV remains unchanged, consisting of a 1.6-liter turbo-4 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, a single electric motor, and a 13.8-kwh battery pack, with standard all-wheel drive. This setup is expected to deliver the same 261 hp as the previous model, with an estimated electric range of 30 miles.
Comparison to Other Plug-in Hybrid Crossovers
When it comes to similar-sized plug-in hybrid crossovers, buyers have limited options. While the Hyundai Santa Fe, which shares a platform with the Sorento, received a major update in 2024, there has been no announcement regarding the return of the plug-in hybrid model. On the other hand, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offers more capability but less efficiency, with an EPA-rated 26 miles of electric range and 23 mpg combined. Buyers looking for a plug-in hybrid crossover will need to consider these factors before making a decision.
