In the ongoing global eco-friendly revolution, European automotive giant, Volkswagen, continues to make significant strides when it comes to electric vehicle innovation. Unfortunately, some of its more recent and exciting EVs are only available in the European continent. A notable case is the introduction of the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer models, high-performance variants of Volkswagen’s signature electric vehicles that won’t be crossing the Atlantic any time soon. This article provides an in-depth look at these unique European cars, their features, and what sets them apart in the relatively new but highly competitive electric vehicle market.
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX
The Volkswagen ID.3 GTX adds a touch of spice to the standard ID.3 electric hatchback sold in Europe. The most marked price differences are noted in the power capabilities. The ID.3 GTX is endowed with a maximum power output of 282 horsepower. For those who crave more potent performance, there’s the option to get a “Performance” version of the ID.3 GTX that packs a whopping 322 horsepower. Furthermore, all this power is exclusively distributed to the rear wheels, resulting in a hot-hatch that can reach a speed of 62 mph within 5.6 seconds.
Unique Aesthetic Features
Volkswagen augments the ID.3 GTX appeal by incorporating a unique suspension with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive dampers. The battery pack has also been slightly expanded compared to the base ID.3 model, hence offering more range. Notably, the ID.3 GTX also features a unique front fascia, 20-inch wheels coated in glossy black trim to distinguish it on the road. The interior is not left untouched either, with the GTX adding high-bolstered sport seats, red trim all through plus model-specific steering wheels.
The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer
The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer escalates the stakes for the electric wagon beyond the standard ID.7 Tourer. The model features an all-wheel-drive powertrain that packs up to 335 horsepower, thus making it Volkswagen’s most potent wagon yet. It narrowly beats the renowned Arteon R Shooting Brake for this illustrious title.
Standout Design Features
Design enhancements for the ID.7 GTX Tourer encompass the GTX-specific front bumper, coupled with a honeycomb grille. Black-painted accents spread across the wagon, as well as unique light graphics. It comes with 20-inch wheels akin to the ID.3 GTX, a GTX-specific steering wheel, and seats. The interior also shares the same red accents found in the ID.3 GTX.
The Future of the GTX Models
Volkswagen has noted that the two GTX models will be launched in Europe shortly. However, American fans of Volkswagen will be disappointed as there are no current plans to bring these models stateside. Considering the growing appetite for affordable hatchback and wagon options in the performance EV space, it certainly feels like quite a miss.
