Volvo recently conducted a crash test at its safety center in Sweden, involving its smallest and largest SUV models, the EX30 and EX90. The purpose of the test was to demonstrate Volvo’s commitment to safety and showcase how their vehicles are designed to protect occupants in the event of a side impact collision. This article will delve into the details of the crash test, highlighting the key findings and safety features that Volvo has implemented to ensure the well-being of its customers.
Volvo staged a crash test at its safety center in Torslanda, Sweden, involving the EX30 and EX90 SUV models. The EX30 is the smallest model in Volvo’s lineup, measuring 166.7 inches long and weighing 4,034 pounds. In contrast, the EX90 is an electric behemoth, stretching 198.3 inches and weighing 5,928 pounds. The test involved a side impact collision, with the EX90 traveling at 31 mph and the EX30 at 12.5 mph. Volvo aimed to showcase how its larger vehicle could protect occupants in a smaller car during a crash.
Lotta Jakobsson, Senior Technical Specialist, Injury Prevention at Volvo, explained how the construction of the EX90 significantly reduces the risk of injury to occupants in the smaller EX30 during a side impact collision. The interaction between the front structure of the larger SUV and the side structure of the smaller vehicle helps absorb the forces of the crash, minimizing the potential for injuries. This demonstrates Volvo’s commitment to safety and protecting occupants in various scenarios.
All Volvo models have been electronically capped at 112 mph since 2020. This speed limit is aimed at reducing the severity of accidents and ensuring the safety of occupants. By limiting the maximum speed of their vehicles, Volvo is taking proactive measures to prevent potential accidents and minimize injuries in the event of a crash.
Both the EX30 and EX90 are brand-new SUV models, and as such, they have not been tested by Euro NCAP or the NHTSA. However, Volvo is confident that both vehicles will receive top safety ratings due to the advanced safety features and design elements incorporated into their construction. The company’s commitment to safety and innovation is evident in its efforts to prioritize the well-being of its customers.
Volvo’s mission goes beyond creating safe vehicles; it aims to eliminate the likelihood of accidents altogether. The Volvo Group Safety Vision focuses on preventing accidents before they occur, highlighting the brand’s dedication to innovation and safety. By implementing advanced safety features and technologies, Volvo is setting a new standard for vehicle safety and striving to make the roads safer for everyone.
