Volkswagen recently expanded its high-performance electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the ID.3 GTX, ID.7 GTX Tourer, and now the ID.Buzz GTX. This new electric van is a sporty iteration of the classic Microbus, designed for families on the go. Equipped with all-wheel drive from two electric motors, customers can choose between a standard-wheelbase version with a 79.0-kilowatt-hour battery or a longer-wheelbase model with an 86.0-kilowatt-hour battery.
The dual motors in the ID.Buzz GTX deliver 335 horsepower, allowing for a quick acceleration to 62 miles per hour in just 6.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 99 mph. The standard version can tow up to 3,968 pounds, while the longer, larger-battery variant can tow up to 3,527 pounds. Charging capabilities also vary based on the battery size, with the larger battery supporting up to 200 kilowatts of power and reaching a charge of 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.
In terms of design, the ID.Buzz GTX features several styling enhancements such as redesigned bumpers, a honeycomb grille, and Cherry Red paint. Exclusive standard 19-inch wheels are available, along with optional sets of 21-inch wheels. The interior boasts a slightly larger touchscreen, a new optional head-up display, illuminated touch sliders for AC and volume control, and sporty seats. The long-wheelbase model offers an optional panoramic sunroof that can transition from opaque to transparent at the touch of a button.
The ID.Buzz GTX is set to go on sale in Europe this summer, with plans to bring a US-bound version later this year. The US model will feature the longer wheelbase, three-row seating, and the 86.0-kWh battery, but it will not carry the GTX badging. Imported from Hanover, Germany, the US model may not be eligible for the federal tax credit.
Overall, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX is a high-performance electric van that combines cutting-edge technology with versatile family-friendly features, making it a compelling option in the growing electric vehicle market.
