Off-roading in a Porsche sports car is nothing new, with the 911 being a rally favorite for decades. However, the 928 Sufari takes a different approach to off-pavement fun. Owned by Tadeusz Elwart, the 928 Sufari was built with the beach in mind, complete with surfboards attached to the roof rack. This unique Porsche was designed to handle off-road activity in safari style while also serving as a functional surf taxi.
Expertise and Design:
Veteran rally driver and engineer Tomasz Staniszewski played a key role in the build of the 928 Sufari. With experience driving a modified Porsche 924 in the Classic Dakar Rally, Staniszewski helped tweak aspects of the 928 to better handle off-road and beach terrain. The 928 sits higher, rides on all-terrain tires, and has adjustments made to the suspension, transmission, and differential.
Lange & Lange, a Warsaw-based design group, was responsible for the exterior design of the 928 Sufari. Drawing inspiration from the Rothmans livery, the 928 features flared wheel arches and a striking appearance. In a sea of safari-themed 911s, the 928 Sufari offers a refreshing take on off-pavement Porsche models.
Surfing and Fun:
The 928 Sufari not only looks the part for off-road adventures, but it also serves a practical purpose as a surf taxi. Designed to get surfers out to the waves, this Porsche offers a unique and stylish way to transport beachgoers and their gear. Whether tackling sandy beaches or cruising along the coast, the 928 Sufari is sure to turn heads.
Overall, the 928 Sufari brings a new dimension to off-roading in a Porsche sports car. With its blend of performance, style, and functionality, this unique vehicle showcases the versatility and creativity of Porsche enthusiasts like Tadeusz Elwart and Tomasz Staniszewski. Whether hitting the trails or catching waves, the 928 Sufari is a true standout in the world of off-road Porsches.
