Introduction
Skoda is planning to make major changes to their production line within the next five years. The automobile manufacturer has plans to launch six electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026. The most affordable vehicle amongst them will be the Epiq, which is set to release next year, carrying a starting price around €25,000 or $27,000. Although small in stature, this entry-level EV is expected to deliver a practical, efficient driving experience with the brand’s new “Modern Solid” design language.
Design and Specifications
With dimensions reaching 4.1 meters (161.4 inches) in length, the Epiq is roughly the size of the Kamiq, serving as its electric alternative. The compact Skoda Epiq is set to ride on a dedicated EV platform, the MEB Entry. This architecture has already been unveiled by the Volkswagen Group through the ID.2all concept. Demonstrating a departure from Volkswagen’s hatchback preference, Skoda is instead developing a crossover.
The Epiq, despite being shorter than the Kamiq, proves more practical. Boasting 490 liters (17.3 cubic feet) cargo capacity, it offers 20 percent more space, attributed to its dedicated EV underpinnings which allow better packaging. As for its battery, Skoda has been discreet about the exact specifications, revealing only that it is capable of over 249 miles (400 kilometers) of range.
Power and Drive
Built on the MEB Entry platform, the Epiq is oriented towards EVs with front-wheel drive. This contrasts with the larger Enyaq driven by the regular MEB platform that comes with rear-wheel drive. There is uncertainty about whether the MEB Entry models will feature an all-wheel drive setup in the future.
Aesthetic Aspects
Likewise, the brand’s new design language, labeled “Modern Solid”, will create a robust appearance for future models. Among aesthetic features are plastic body cladding around wheel arches, unpainted sections of the rear bumpers, illuminated rear badges, and slim lights at both ends.
Upcoming Releases
Skoda is set to reveal the Elroq, a larger compact crossover, later this year. Its exclusively electric setup will be complemented by the Epiq’s release in 2025. Both models are set to join the line-up along with next-generation Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe by 2026. Also in the pipeline is an Octavia-style wagon EV and a large three-row SUV, previewed by the Vision 7S, without a combustion engine.
