The Ram Classic pickup truck production has come to an end in Canada, but will continue in the US and Mexico for the time being. There are uncertainties about the truck’s future in the US beyond 2024, as its current inventory in Canada consists of only 2023 models. The standard Ram trucks in 1500, 2500, and 3500 trims are also available as 2024 models in addition to the Ram Classic. The US will see the Ram Classic production for the 2024 model year, alongside the refreshed 2025 trucks later in the year.
With limited trim levels and engine options, the Ram Classic faces challenges that could lead to its demise. The truck offers only two trim levels – Tradesman and Warlock – and a choice of cab size, bed size, and either a V-6 or now-discontinued V-8 engine. The Hemi V-8 is no longer available after 2024, leaving only the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 as the powertrain option. While the V-6 can provide adequate performance with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, its towing capacity is lower compared to the new inline-six and outgoing Hemi.
The Ram Classic’s roots trace back to 2008 when it was under the Dodge brand. As the Hemi engine is being phased out and production has ceased in Canada, the future of the Ram Classic in the US is uncertain. Despite declining to comment, it seems likely that production for the US could also be discontinued in the near future.
In conclusion, the Ram Classic pickup truck faces challenges that may lead to its discontinuation in the US as well. The limited trim options and outdated V-6 engine could make it less competitive in the market, especially as newer models with more advanced technology are introduced. It remains to be seen whether the Ram Classic will continue to be part of the Ram lineup beyond 2024 in the US.
