The Toyota GR Corolla, now in its second year of production, has received a significant upgrade for the 2025 model year – an eight-speed automatic transmission option. In addition to this new gearbox option, Toyota has made a number of performance enhancements to the car, including increased torque and improved cooling. The new Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission features launch control and paddle shifters, and has unique software that sets it apart from the transmissions found in other GR models like the Supra and GR86.
The GR Corolla offers four drive modes – Normal, Sport, Eco, and Custom, with the automatic transmission tuned specifically for Sport mode. The transmission has been optimized to have similar shift points to the six-speed manual, and comes standard with a transmission cooler for improved performance on the track. Toyota has also made adjustments to the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, increasing torque from 273 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft, while maintaining the same 300 horsepower output.
In terms of handling, Toyota has added front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials as standard on the all-wheel-drive 2025 GR Corolla. Suspension upgrades include the addition of rebound springs front and rear, upgraded rear coils and stabilizers, and a raised trailing arm mounting point to reduce squat during acceleration. The new front bumper design not only enhances the car’s appearance, but also improves stability with enhanced brake ducts and air curtain construction.
The 2025 GR Corolla will be available in Core, Premium, and Premium Plus trims, with Toyota discontinuing the Circuit Edition. The Premium Plus trim includes a carbon-fiber roof, vented bulge hood, head-up display, and other premium features. Interior updates include new trim finishes and switches, while exterior upgrades include 18-inch alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. The car also comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and a one-year National Auto Sport Association membership.
Toyota plans to release pricing information and additional details closer to the release of the 2025 GR Corolla this winter. The current entry-level 2024 GR Corolla starts at $37,635 and goes up to $46,275 with the Circuit Edition.
With these enhancements and upgrades, the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla promises to offer an even more exhilarating driving experience for performance enthusiasts.
