British sports car maker Ginetta presented the Akula in March 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show, promising customer deliveries by January 2020. The production version features a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V-8 engine with 600 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque, packed into a lightweight 2,624-pound carbon fiber monocoque frame.
Impressive Performance
Despite the Akula’s “old-school” formula in a hybrid and electric era, it delivers a 0 to 62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed exceeding 180 mph. Equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and optional carbon-ceramic brakes, the Akula is designed for both performance and comfort, with 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space and a large fuel tank for a 450-mile range.
Limited Production and Price
Only 20 Akula supercars will be made in Leeds, with a price tag of $362,300 before taxes and shipping. The name “Akula” meaning “shark” in Russian reflects the car’s aggressive design, tested in the wind tunnel and inspired by Ginetta’s LMP1 race car. The initial price of £275,000 has been reduced from the original £340,000 sticker.
