Introduction:
Husqvarna, a Swedish brand originally known for dirtbikes and power equipment, gained recognition for its Svartpilen and Vitpilen naked motorcycles. The Svartpilen featured a scrambler-style design with off-road capabilities, while the Vitpilen sported a sleek, low-slung profile. With the disappearance of the higher-performance 701 variant after 2020, the brand shifted focus to the entry-level 401 models. However, the introduction of the new Svartpilen 801 marks a return to high performance with the inclusion of an extra cylinder.
The Svartpilen 801: A Stylish and Powerful Update
The Svartpilen 801 introduces a fresh interpretation of Husqvarna’s distinctive design language. Characterized by clean lines and subtle curves, the bike exudes a modern Swedish aesthetic. Attention to detail is evident in the seamless integration of various elements, such as the angle-cut exhaust that aligns perfectly with the tail section. The bike retains the signature high handlebars and mid-mounted foot controls characteristic of the Svartpilen series.
Underneath the striking bodywork lies a tube frame that houses the engine as a stressed member. Equipped with 17-inch wheels on both ends, the Svartpilen 801 features dual 11.8-inch front disc brakes and a 9.4-inch single disc at the rear. The suspension setup comprises an inverted front fork with compression and rebound adjustment, along with a rear monoshock with rebound adjustment.
Power and Performance: The Heart of the Svartpilen 801
Borrowing both chassis and engine from the KTM Duke 790, the Svartpilen 801 is powered by a 799-cc parallel twin engine, a departure from the 701’s 693-cc single-cylinder configuration. The 270-degree-crank engine delivers a robust 105 horsepower and 64 pound-feet of torque. Weighing in at 399 pounds dry, the bike strikes a balance between performance and agility. A six-speed manual transmission with a slip-assist clutch and quick shifter facilitates smooth gear shifts, while standard features like cornering traction control, ride modes, and ABS enhance safety and performance.
Tech-Savvy Features and Customization Options
The Svartpilen 801 comes equipped with a standard 5-inch color instrument screen that offers Bluetooth connectivity for added convenience. Standard features include cruise control, anti-wheelie control, and finely adjustable traction control, while an optional Dynamic Pack provides additional customization options. Riders can expect a range of accessories to tailor the bike to their preferences, from ergonomics to performance enhancements.
Price and Availability: What to Expect
Set to hit the market in April, the Svartpilen 801 will be priced at $10,899 before additional fees and taxes. While no sportier Vitpilen variant has been announced yet, based on previous iterations and the 401 models, it’s likely to feature updated bodywork, clip-on bars, and rearward foot controls. Sporting sportier tires and a sleeker profile, the Vitpilen is expected to complement the Svartpilen with a more aggressive styling and enhanced performance.
