Introducing the 2025 Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is back with a new model for 2025, after a 15-year hiatus since the last release. The new 4Runner retains its rugged spirit while being rebuilt from the ground up, using the same TNGA-F truck architecture as the Tacoma. The outdated 4.0-liter V-6 has been replaced with a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 278 horsepower and 378 pound-feet of torque. An optional hybrid version of the same engine is also available, making 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Engine Output and Transmission
The 2025 4Runner comes with two engine options: a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 278 hp and 378 lb-ft of torque, and a hybrid version of the same engine with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the outdated five-speed automatic.

Off-Roading Capabilities
The new 4Runner features Mud, Dirt, and Sand modes, along with a quieter Crawl Control function. The Trailhunter trim, the toughest of the bunch, includes 33-inch off-road tires, 2.0-inch front and 1.5-inch rear ride height lift, ARB shocks, a roof rack, high-mounted air intake, light bar, and steel skid plates.

Luxury Features and Technology
For those less interested in off-roading, the new 4Runner Limited trim offers luxury upgrades such as black exterior accents, heated second row, head-up display, and automatic rain-sensing wipers. The vehicle comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, with options for a 14.0-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cluster on higher grades, featuring wireless connectivity, wireless charging, and various USB outlets.

Safety Features
Every version of the new 4Runner comes equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 standard, including features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, road-sign recognition, and high-beam assist.

Pricing and Availability
While the exact pricing for the new 2025 4Runner has not been released, it is expected to be slightly higher than the 2024 model’s starting price of $42,100. The vehicle will go on sale later this year and offers a wide range of trims to cater to different preferences and needs.
