Hidden Treasure: Vintage 1963 International C-1000 Pickup in Junkyard

The International Harvester Corporation began selling light trucks in 1907 and continued until the last IHC Scout Terras were built as 1980 models. The company’s pickup production ran through 1975, with various models released over the years. One such model, the C-Series half-ton truck, is the focus of this Junkyard Gem found in a Colorado self-service boneyard. This truck, built for the 1961 through 1964 model years, boasted a tough design and powerful V8 engines, although this particular one features a 240-cubic-inch straight-six engine.

The C-Series trucks were designed for heavy-duty work, boasting simple but effective features such as manual transmission and heater controls. However, luxuries such as air conditioning were optional extras at the time. Despite the lack of modern amenities, the C-Series trucks were popular for their reliability and performance.

Even after the International Harvester Corporation was disbanded and reorganized in the 1980s, you can still find International trucks being produced by Navistar International, now owned by Volkswagen Group. These modern trucks carry on the legacy of the original International trucks, known for their durability and ruggedness.

In Colorado, where this Junkyard Gem was discovered, IHC pickups and Scouts can still be found in salvage yards, a testament to the enduring popularity and longevity of these classic trucks. The International C-Series truck, with its robust design and powerful engine options, remains a favorite among truck enthusiasts and collectors.
