Lamborghini is set to unveil the successor to the Huracan on August 16 during the Monterey Car Week. The Italian automaker has released a teaser video showcasing the new supercar’s twin-turbo V-8 engine, which will replace the naturally aspirated V-10 found in its predecessors. Despite this change, the engine is expected to produce an impressive 789 horsepower with a redline of 10,000 rpm.
### New Engine Details
Lamborghini’s first flat-plane V-8 engine will generate 538 pound-feet of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm. This new ICE development boasts nearly 200 hp per liter and utilizes a “hot-vee” layout with titanium connecting rods. The engine is part of a complex hybrid system featuring three electric motors and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission adapted from the flagship Revuelto model.
### Power Output
While Lamborghini has not officially announced the combined power output of the new supercar, CEO Stephan Winkelmann hinted that it would exceed 900 CV, translating to over 887 hp. This significant power increase over the 631-hp Huracan puts the new model in a league of its own, with more power than its Audi R8 counterpart or the Revuelto model.
### Standalone Model
Unlike previous collaborations with Audi for models like the R8, Lamborghini’s new supercar is a standalone project that showcases the company’s financial stability and ability to develop high-performance vehicles independently. While Audi technically owns Lamborghini, the Italian marque is expanding its electrified lineup with models like the Revuelto and Urus hybrids before transitioning to a pure EV around 2028 with the Lanzador grand tourer.
### Future Evolution
The upcoming Lamborghini supercar, rumored to be named “Temerario,” represents the brand’s commitment to innovation and performance. By introducing a new twin-turbo V-8 engine alongside a hybrid powertrain, the company is setting the stage for future electrified models while maintaining its reputation for producing exhilarating, high-performance vehicles.
With the unveiling of the Huracan’s successor just around the corner, enthusiasts can look forward to a new chapter in Lamborghini’s history that combines cutting-edge technology with the unique design and performance that the brand is renowned for. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated supercar reveal on August 16 during the Monterey Car Week.
