Elon Musk unveils ‘mega rave cave’ at Tesla’s Berlin gigafactory

Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has seemingly opened a nightclub, embracing the city’s club culture. The new space called Hamster was unveiled by a senior manufacturing director, Andre Thierig, with a video showcasing Tesla workers walking down an illuminated tunnel into a dark club with lights and DJ decks. This move comes after Elon Musk first mentioned the idea of a club at the German factory in a social media poll back in 2020. However, Berliners have been skeptical and have been mocking the new addition to the city’s famous club scene.

Tesla’s Club Culture

Andre Thierig, a senior manufacturing director at Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, has introduced a new space called Hamster that appears to be a nightclub on the factory premises. The video shared by Thierig and Tesla shows Tesla workers making their way through an illuminated tunnel into a dark club setting with lights and DJ decks. The soundtrack of the video is a modern version of Richard Strauss’s “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” known for its use in the film “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, initially suggested the idea of a club at the German factory in a 2020 Twitter poll, where he proposed the concept of a “mega rave cave” with an epic sound system and massive woofers.

Social Media Response

Berliners have reacted to Tesla’s new nightclub with skepticism, with some taking to social media to mock the club. One popular Instagram meme account, Berlinclubmemes, created memes suggesting that Elon Musk decided to open the Tesla club after being rejected from Berghain, one of Berlin’s most exclusive clubs known for its selective entrance policy. While it remains unclear if Musk has ever visited the club, he once mentioned being outside the venue and not entering. The response from Berliners has been mixed, with some questioning the appropriateness of a club on a factory premises.

Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory

Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, which opened in 2022, is responsible for manufacturing battery cells and has the capacity to produce about 375,000 Model Y cars annually. The factory is located approximately 22 miles southeast of central Berlin. Despite the factory’s focus on automobile production, the addition of a nightclub-like space within the factory premises has raised eyebrows and led to discussions about the intersection of work and leisure. Representatives for Tesla have not yet commented on the unveiling of the nightclub space within the Berlin factory.
