The new BMW M5 has faced criticism for its weight and styling, as well as concerns over its plug-in hybrid nature. Can M Performance Parts help the G90 live up to the prestige of its predecessors? Available from day one, these upgrades include carbon fiber components such as a front spoiler lip and rear diffuser. However, with the standard car weighing over 5,000 pounds, the additional carbon bits might not make a significant difference.
In addition to carbon fiber upgrades, the M5 can be optioned with matte black side decals, aramid shark fin antenna, and lightweight alloy wheels with M Performance-branded tire bags. The car also features an embossed “M5” logo on exhaust tips made from titanium and carbon fiber. While these optional goodies can shave off some weight, a stricter diet may be needed for a potential M5 CS variant.
Despite offering a range of optional items and M Performance Parts, BMW does not currently offer carbon bucket seats or centerlock wheels for the M5. However, the upcoming M5 Touring is set to debut soon and may offer these options. The G99 model has been approved for sale in the US and is expected to cost more than the sedan model.
BMW fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the M5 Touring, which promises to offer even more performance upgrades and options. With the addition of M Performance Parts, the M5 G90 may be able to overcome its initial criticisms and live up to the reputation of previous M models.
