The Autonomous e-Mobility Forum was inaugurated by Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to developing a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation system. Minister Al-Sulaiti stressed Qatar’s dedication to enhancing its transportation infrastructure under the leadership of H.H. the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The country aims to share its expertise in green and smart transportation with the rest of the world, drawing from its experiences in hosting major events like the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 and the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
During the opening ceremony, Minister Al-Sulaiti highlighted the successful transportation experiences of major events in Qatar, showcasing the country’s ability to provide safe and efficient mobility solutions for large numbers of people. The minister also shared the progress on public bus electrification, with plans to achieve a 100% electric bus fleet by 2030 and become a global leader in zero-emission transportation.
In line with Qatar’s goal to become a major hub for electric vehicles in the MENA region, the Ministry of Transport announced plans to establish a specialized center for inspecting and testing EV specifications. This initiative aims to ensure that EVs in Qatar meet the required standards and certifications, supporting the country’s transition towards sustainable transportation practices.
Minister Al-Sulaiti emphasized the Ministry’s efforts towards implementing the Autonomous Vehicle Strategy, focusing on enabling autonomous vehicles’ operations, managing their fleet, and ensuring safety for both operators and vehicles. The strategy aims to leverage advanced technology to support Qatar’s economic diversification and sustainable development goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
