2024 Subaru BRZ Cup Car Updated with EyeSight Technology, Priced at $24,300 in Japan

Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic: Track-Ready and Affordable

Subaru has been offering a track-ready version of the BRZ in Japan since 2013, starting with the BRZ RA featuring steel wheels and a roll cage. The latest iteration, known as the BRZ Cup Car Basic, is based on the second-generation model and comes with some updates for 2024. Despite being a race-focused machine, Subaru has managed to keep the cost of the BRZ Cup Car Basic refreshingly affordable.

Updates for 2024 Model

The 2024 Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic remains true to its roots by retaining the 16-inch steel wheels with 205/55 R16 tires, although Subaru understands that most buyers will likely opt to swap out the wheels for ones more suited to the track. The shape of the six-point roll cage and its sidebar has been modified for the 2024 model year. Perhaps the most surprising update is the inclusion of standard EyeSight technology, which is uncommon to find on a track-only vehicle.

Race-Ready Features

As with previous iterations, the BRZ Cup Car Basic foregoes side and curtain airbags in favor of a lighter and more focused design. Most of the sound insulation has been removed, and the driver’s seat now comes equipped with eye bolts for a six-point harness. The floor mats have also been altered to accommodate the roll cage installation. Additionally, Subaru has added an extra engine oil cooler and mounted fins to channel air to the rear differential, enhancing the vehicle’s performance on the track.

Comparable Weight and Comfort

Despite its track-focused nature, the 2024 Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic weighs in at 2,843 pounds, which is equal to the street-legal model. It still features passenger seats and air conditioning, although the roll cage obstructs the side vents. Interestingly, the specification sheet indicates that the side airbags are still present but have been deactivated due to the installation of the roll cage. Subaru acknowledges that the Cup Car Basic may have some drawbacks in terms of ride comfort, maneuverability, ease of entry and exit, and quietness compared to the standard BRZ.

Affordability and Pricing

Priced at approximately $24,373, the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic offers exceptional value for customers seeking a track-ready sports coupe. This price point is significantly lower than the starting price of $30,195 for the standard 2024 BRZ in the United States. The relatively affordable cost of the Cup Car Basic can be attributed to the currency exchange rate, as well as the increasing prices of the BRZ in the US market.

Toyota GR86 Equivalent

In addition to the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic, there is an equivalent version offered by Toyota known as the GR86. Both models compete in Japan’s GR86/BRZ Cup, showcasing the performance capabilities of these track-ready vehicles. The affordability and performance of the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic make it an attractive option for enthusiasts seeking a capable and budget-friendly track car.
