Ivara SUV concept unveiled by Karma, more PHEVs in the works

Karma Unveils Ivara Concept at Monterey Car Week

Karma made waves at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during the 2024 Monterey Car Week in California by unveiling the Ivara concept. The event also showcased the Kaveya sports car and Gyesera sport sedan, with the Kaveya featuring a newly designed interior planned for production. The Ivara, an SUV with a sleek, coupe-like design, is set to debut in production form by the end of 2027, incorporating key design elements from Karma’s future lineup.

Development of the Ivara will allow for both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. While specifics on the PHEV technology remain unclear, Karma’s Revero sedan currently features a series plug-in hybrid setup. The Revero boasts 536 hp from dual electric motors at the rear axle and a BMW-sourced turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-3 generator up front. The company originally intended to focus solely on electric vehicles beyond the Revero, but changing market demands have led to a shift towards offering more PHEV powertrain options.

Plans for the Gyesera, initially envisioned as an EV scheduled for launch this year, may include modifications to accommodate a PHEV powertrain. Karma CEO Marques McCammon hinted at changes to the Gyesera platform to align with market preferences. The Kaveya, on the other hand, will debut in 2026 as a software-defined vehicle (SDV) developed in collaboration with Intel, allowing for over-the-air updates throughout its lifespan.

Karma’s roots trace back to the now-defunct Fisker Automotive, with the Revero serving as its flagship model. Over the years, the company has shifted from offering luxury and commercial vehicles to focusing exclusively on luxury models with high levels of personalization. Production of the new Karma vehicles will take place in Moreno Valley, California, where the Revero is currently assembled.

By positioning itself as an American ultra-luxury brand akin to Duesenberg from the past, Karma aims to establish a strong presence in the luxury vehicle market. The company’s commitment to innovation and flexibility in response to market trends suggests a promising future for Karma vehicles.
