The Fastest BMW on Earth: Meet the 1500-HP M240i

BMW’s B58 straight-six engine has gained popularity in the import drag racing scene due to its durability and ability to handle high levels of boost. This 1500-horsepower BMW 2 Series showcases the potential of the B58 engine as it outperforms many other vehicles on the drag strip. Despite its seemingly stock appearance, this M240i xDrive coupe has been heavily modified to enhance its performance, including upgrades to the engine, transmission, and drivetrain.

The modifications to the B58 engine include new camshafts, ported heads, a heavy-duty fuel system, and a 74-millimeter Precision turbocharger running at 49 pounds of boost. The all-wheel drive system has been maintained and the factory eight-speed automatic transmission has been upgraded by Pure Drivetrain Solutions. Additionally, the car features beefed-up axles and a carbon driveshaft to handle the increased power, while the rear differential remains unmodified. Surprisingly, the stock ECU has been retained and modified to accommodate the changes, allowing the vehicle to maintain many of its original features and comforts.

Despite the modifications, the car still retains most of its original interior components, and weighs approximately 3510 pounds with the driver in the seat. At a recent event in Texas, the car achieved a remarkable quarter-mile time of 7.9 seconds at 175 mph, making it the fastest BMW in the quarter-mile category. With further modifications, it is likely that this BMW 2 Series could achieve even faster times on the drag strip.

Overall, this 1500-horsepower BMW 2 Series serves as a testament to the potential of the B58 engine in the world of import drag racing. Its combination of power, handling, and retained comforts make it a standout in its class and a force to be reckoned with on the drag strip.
