The future of Alfa Romeo’s sports spectacle, the Giulia, looks exciting and inviting. Scheduled to be released in 2026, the crescendo of developments and the continuous tryst with the sketches promises to be a ‘short of exceptional.’ Revealing the details in an interview with Motor1 Italy, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean Philippe Imparato has shared his expectations and plans on Giulia’s design, powertrain compatibility, and much more. It seems the wait until 2026 will be worth it as an Alfa Romeo packed with Italian flair and modern aesthetics takes shape.
The Platform and Design of the Giulia
The design of the much-anticipated Alfa Romeo Giulia is locked in and has been worked on for the past two years. The new 2026 Giulia is expected to be built on the STLA Large platform, similar to the 2024 Charger. This platform, according to Alfa Romeo’s head honcho, offers great flexibility in terms of overall length, wheelbase, width, and height. The primary difference between the models is in their designs, with the yet-to-be-released Giulia featuring a radically distinct style.
Giulia and Stelvio: The Power Duo
Interestingly enough, the upcoming Giulia will again be partnered with the Stelvio, the ultimate SUV of Alfa Romeo. Both the vehicles are lined for manufacturing at the factory in Cassino, with Stelvio set for launch in 2025 and its sedan counterpart, Giulia, envisaged for commercialization in 2026. The new Giulia will be different from its Charger rival due to its distinct dimensions.
The Aesthetics: Traditional or Futuristic?
The coming Giulia might either stick to the traditional three-box sedan or adopt a subtly rustic fastback silhouette. The latter has been suggested by company officials and is expected to resemble other Stellantis products, such as the Peugeot 4008 and Citroen C5 X.
Powertrain Compatibility: ICE, EV, or Hybrid
Contrary to many reports, Alfa Romeo plans to adopt both ICE and EV power for the Giulia and Stelvio models. The flexibility of the STLA Large platform enables this accommodation, as articulated in the 2024 Dodge Charger model. The hybrid setup of these two models is a combination of both ICE and EV power.
Purely Electric with Alfa Romeo
By the year 2027, Alfa Romeo is expected to have purely electric variants of all their models. The Milano small crossover by Alfa Romeo would be the first-off, slated for a world premiere on April 10. Following Milano, Giulia and Stelvio will undergo a zero-emission setup in the subsequent years. Towards the end of the decade, an alternate large aero-optimized sedan or an extended SUV variant is expected.
Alfa Romeo is well set on an exciting and triumphant path, realizing a 30% growth in shipments in 2023. The vehicle manufacturer plans to expand its lineup further, promising excellent growth prospects. The dynamics of merging the FCA and PSA under the Stellantis umbrella, which promised investments for ten years, certainly helped Alfa Romeo and other Italian brands like Fiat, Maserati, Lancia, and Abarth to innovate and revamp their offerings for a thriving future.
