Rivian R2 unveiled for 2026 with $45,000 price tag, over 300 miles range, 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Introducing the 2026 Rivian R2: A Compact SUV with off-road capabilities

The 2026 Rivian R2 has been introduced as the latest addition to Rivian’s lineup, which now includes three separate models alongside the R1T and R1S. Priced at $45,000, this two-row, five-seat SUV is designed to compete with other vehicles in its segment such as the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E, while also offering a unique off-road and adventurous twist.

Design and Features of the Rivian R2

The Rivian R2 sports a rugged box-like design that resembles a more compact version of the R1S. It maintains Rivian’s signature chunky light bar and upright oval-shaped headlights in the front, along with prominent tow hooks on the lower bumper. The vehicle’s sizable frunk, pop-out door handles, simple body sculpting, and flat roof contribute to its distinctive appearance. Additionally, the rear of the R2 features the signature Rivian light bar and a small “R2” badge in the lower corner.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Rivian R2 boasts a familiar design with a pair of screens including a large infotainment touchscreen and a smaller digital instrument cluster. In response to customer feedback, the R2 now includes two gloveboxes, addressing a previous concern with the R1 models. The vehicle also includes advanced technology such as 11 cameras and 5 radars for hands-free highway driving, a feature that the R1T and R1S already offer.

Powertrain and Performance

Rivian has revealed limited powertrain specs for the R2, with three versions available: single-motor RWD, dual-motor AWD, and tri-motor AWD. Each version is projected to have a range of over 300 miles, with the tri-motor variant boasting a 0-60 mph time under 3.0 seconds. The R2 will introduce a new battery technology called 4695, featuring larger cylindrical cells compared to the batteries used in the R1S and R1T models.

Availability and Pricing

Although specific pricing details for all trims have not been released, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe announced that the starting price for the R2 will be $45,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2026, with production scheduled to take place at Rivian’s facility in Normal, Illinois. As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
