Introduction:
In 1958, the Walklett brothers founded Ginetta as a race car maker, known for its focus on light weight and sharp performance. Over the years, the company has evolved to produce race and road cars, organize one-make series, and offer the GT6 Evo for FIA GT racing. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Ginetta unveiled its supercar entry, the Akula, boasting impressive specifications. Five years later, the production version of the Akula is ready, featuring several revisions.
The Ginetta Akula features a carbon monocoque, steel roll cage, carbon fiber body panels, and carbon fiber subframes. It is equipped with a 6.4-liter V8 engine producing 600 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque, with a 50:50 weight balance. The coupe can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of over 180 mph. Owners can choose between a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual for ultimate engagement.
The Ginetta Akula comes with double wishbone suspension, adjustable pushrod-activated dampers, and adjustable front and rear roll bars. The car rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels fitted with P Zero rubber tires. The standard ABS-equipped brake package includes four-piston calipers clamping 14.2-inch rotors, while the Akula Race Package offers carbon ceramics and a six-point racing harness for enhanced performance.
Although the aero-optimized bodywork of the Akula has been toned down, the car remains a high-performance machine. The interior features built-in seats, an electronically adjustable steering wheel and pedal box, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Owners can have their seats custom-formed at the Ginetta offices for a personalized fit. The trunk offers nearly 17 cubic feet of storage space, and the 26.4-gallon gas tank provides a range of around 450 miles.
Originally planning to build 20 Akulas in the first year of production, Ginetta has decided to limit production to just 20 units as part of the 20-year anniversary celebration of Dr. Lawrence Tomlinson buying the company. The starting price for the Akula is 275,000 Great British Pounds ($362,400 U.S.), with build slots still available for interested buyers.
The name “Akula” is Russian for “shark,” reflecting the aggressive and powerful nature of the Ginetta supercar. With its sleek design, high-performance capabilities, and limited production, the Ginetta Akula embodies the spirit of a predator on the road, poised for speed and precision.
